A psicologia \u00e9 a ci\u00eancia que estuda os processos mentais. A palavra vem do grego: psico- (alma ou actividade mental) e -log\u00eda (estudo). Esta disciplina analisa as tr\u00eas dimens\u00f5es desses processos: cognitiva, afectiva e comportamental.<\/p>\n
A psicologia moderna tratou de compilar factos\/casos sobre o comportamento e a experi\u00eancia humana, organizando-os de forma sistem\u00e1tica e elaborando teorias para a sua compreens\u00e3o. Estes estudos permitem explicar o comportamento dos seres humanos e inclusive anteceder as suas ac\u00e7\u00f5es futuras.
\nA metodologia de estudo da psicologia divide-se em duas grandes \u00e1reas: aquela que entende esta disciplina como uma ci\u00eancia b\u00e1sica ou experimental e utiliza um m\u00e9todo cient\u00edfico quantitativo (contrasta hip\u00f3teses com vari\u00e1veis quantific\u00e1veis em contextos experimentais), e outra que procura compreender o fen\u00f3meno psicol\u00f3gico mediante metodologias qualitativas que enrique\u00e7am a descri\u00e7\u00e3o e ajudem a interpretar os processos.<\/p>\n
A psicologia tamb\u00e9m se pode dividir em psicologia b\u00e1sica (a sua fun\u00e7\u00e3o consiste em gerar novos conhecimentos no que diz respeito aos fen\u00f3menos psicol\u00f3gicos) e em psicologia aplicada (tem como objetivo a solu\u00e7\u00e3o de problemas pr\u00e1ticos atrav\u00e9s da aplica\u00e7\u00e3o dos conhecimentos produzidos pela psicologia b\u00e1sica).<\/p>\n
alvez a doutrina da psicologia mais conhecida seja a cognitiva, que estuda o acto de conhecimento (a forma mediante a qual se compreende, organiza e utiliza a informa\u00e7\u00e3o recebida atrav\u00e9s dos sentidos). Desta forma, a psicologia cognitiva estuda fun\u00e7\u00f5es como a aten\u00e7\u00e3o, a percep\u00e7\u00e3o, a mem\u00f3ria e a linguagem.<\/p>\n
Relativamente \u00e0 defini\u00e7\u00e3o de psic\u00f3logo, o termo refere-se ao profissional licenciado em Psicologia ou, na sua acep\u00e7\u00e3o mais ampla, \u00e0s pessoas que estudam o comportamento humano sob o prisma cient\u00edfico. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung e Jean Piaget s\u00e3o alguns dos psic\u00f3logos pioneiros.<\/p>\n
